Gambling Should Always Be a Choice, Not a Compulsion

At Datochai, responsible gambling is not something we added to our platform after the fact — it was part of the original design brief. We believe every player in Malaysia, whether they're placing a casual bet on a Liga Super Malaysia match or spinning slots on a Friday evening in Bangsar, deserves tools that keep them firmly in control of how much time and money they spend.

Problem gambling is more common than most people acknowledge, and it does not discriminate. It affects people across all income levels, all cities — from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru — and all types of gaming activity. The warning signs are often subtle at first: spending slightly more than planned, chasing a loss, thinking about gambling during non-gambling hours.

Datochai's approach is built on three principles: prevention through accessible tools that work before a problem develops; intervention through monitoring that flags concerning patterns; and support through quick access to professional resources at every point in the journey.

Note: Datochai will never contact you to encourage you to increase a deposit limit you have voluntarily set. We will never offer a bonus as an incentive to lift a self-imposed restriction. Your limits are yours — they exist to protect you, not to be marketed around.

Healthy vs. Problematic Gambling

✅ Healthy Signs
  • You set a budget and stick to it
  • You play for fun, not to earn income
  • Losses don't affect your mood significantly
  • You can stop whenever you choose
  • It doesn't interfere with work or relationships
⚠️ Warning Signs
  • Chasing losses with bigger bets
  • Gambling with money you cannot afford
  • Hiding gambling from family or friends
  • Feeling anxious when not gambling
  • Borrowing money to gamble

If you recognise two or more warning signs in your own behaviour, please use the self-exclusion or limit tools in your account, or contact a helpline. Early action makes recovery significantly easier.

Your Responsible Gambling Toolkit

Every tool below is accessible directly from your Datochai account dashboard — no need to contact support first. Set limits, take breaks, or self-exclude in under a minute.

Set a maximum amount you can deposit into your Datochai account over a defined period —daily, weekly, or monthly. Once a deposit limit is set, it takes effect immediately. If you want to increase a limit, a7-day cooling-off period applies before the higher limit becomes active — giving you time to reconsider. Reducing a limit takes effect immediately with no waiting period.

For example, if you set a weekly deposit limit of RM 500, you cannot deposit more than that amount across all payment methods (Touch 'n Go eWallet, Boost, FPX, DuitNow, etc.) within the rolling 7-day window. This is one of the most effective tools for keeping gambling within a budget you've decided on in advance.

A loss limit caps how much real money you can lose within a defined period — daily, weekly, or monthly. Once your loss limit is reached, you will no longer be able to place real money wagers until the period resets. This prevents the escalating cycle of chasing losses that is one of the clearest warning signs of problem gambling.

Loss limits apply to all real money play across casino games, live dealer tables, and sports betting markets. Like deposit limits, reductions take effect immediately, while increases require a 7-day cooling-off period before activation.

Set a maximum session duration after which the Platform will automatically log you out. You can set session limits of 30 minutes, 1 hour,2 hours, or a custom duration of your choosing. When session approaches the limit, you will receive an in-platform notification, giving you a chance to review your activity before the session ends.

Prolonged gaming sessions without breaks are associated with impaired decision-making and higher spend. Session limits are particularly useful if you find yourself losing track of time during live dealer or live sports betting sessions.

A cooling-off period temporarily suspends your Datochai account for a duration you choose: 24 hours, 48 hours,7 days, 30 days, or up to 6 weeks. During a cooling-off period, you cannot log in, deposit or place wagers. The account remains closed for the full selected duration — it cannot be ended early by contacting support.

A cooling-off period is the right tool if you feel you need a short-to-medium break from gambling but do not want to permanently close your account. It is an effective reset that many players use after a run of heavy play, a stressful period, or simply when they feel they need distance from the Platform.

Self-exclusion is the most serious player protection tool available on Datochai. When you self-exclude, your account is permanently suspended for the period you select — available options include 6 months, 1 year,5 years, or indefinitely. Once self-exclusion is activated, it cannot be reversed until the selected period expires. There is no early reversal, regardless of circumstances.

During self-exclusion, your account will be closed, your marketing preferences will be suppressed (you will receive no promotional communications), and any verified real money balance will be returned to your last-used payment method. We will also take reasonable steps to prevent you from creating a new account during your exclusion period.

Self-exclusion can be activated directly from your account dashboard under "Responsible Gambling Settings". You can also contact our support team via live chat at any time of day to request self-exclusion — the team is trained to action these requests immediately, without pressure or persuasion to remain active.

If you are in crisis or at risk, please also contact Talian Kasih (15999) — Malaysia's 24-hour social welfare helpline — alongside activating self-exclusion. Professional human support matters as much as technical controls.

How Datochai Protects You

Beyond individual tools, these are the platform-level commitments that shape how Datochai operates with every Malaysian player's safety in mind.

Strict 21+ Age Enforcement

Every Datochai account goes through KYC verification that confirms age and identity. No withdrawal is processed without a verified account. Any account found to belong to a person under 21 is closed immediately, funds are returned to the payment source, and the matter is reported to the relevant authority.

Behaviour Monitoring

Datochai's platform monitors for gambling behaviour patterns associated with risk — significantly increased session frequency, rapid escalation of bet sizes, or extended play immediately following large losses. When patterns trigger internal thresholds, our responsible gambling team may reach out proactively to check in.

Non-Pressuring Support Team

Every member of Datochai's support team receives responsible gambling training. If you raise a concern, request a limit increase under an active cooling-off period, or contact us while distressed, you will not be offered incentives to continue gambling. Our team is empowered to prioritise your wellbeing over platform revenue.

Marketing Opt-Out

If you are on a cooling-off period or have activated self-exclusion, all promotional communications are automatically suppressed. You can also opt out of all marketing at any time from your account settings — independently of any limit or exclusion status. Datochai does not target players showing signs of gambling distress with bonus offers.

Transparent Terms — Always

Datochai displays wagering requirements clearly before any bonus is accepted. We will never retroactively change the terms of an active bonus. Our withdrawal policies, fee schedules, and limit rules are written in plain English and accessible from the Terms & Conditions page at any time.

Third-Party Resource Signposting

Datochai maintains a list of independent responsible gambling organisations on this page and in the account dashboard. These include Malaysian resources such as Talian Kasih (15999) and internationally recognised bodies such as GamCare. We provide these references because we believe external, independent support matters.

Recognising a Gambling Problem

Problem gambling rarely appears all at once. It typically develops gradually, and the signs are often rationalised in the early stages. Knowing what to look for — in yourself or in someone you care about — is the first step toward addressing it.

The signs below are widely recognised indicators drawn from established responsible gambling frameworks. If you identify with several of them, it is worth pausing and speaking to someone — whether that's a helpline, a trusted friend, or our support team.

Self-assessment: Many responsible gambling organisations provide free, anonymous self-assessment tools online. These are short questionnaires that help you evaluate the nature and severity of your gambling behaviour without judgment. Datochai recommends using them if you have any doubt about your relationship with gambling.

Spending more money on gambling than you originally planned, repeatedly and despite intentions to stop.

Chasing losses — placing larger or more frequent bets specifically to recover money already lost.

Feeling restless, irritable, or anxious when trying to reduce or stop gambling activity.

Hiding gambling activity from family members, partners, or close friends — lying about time or money spent.

Gambling to escape from stress, anxiety, depression, or difficult personal situations rather than for entertainment.

Borrowing money — from friends, family, or financial institutions — specifically to fund gambling activity.

Neglecting work, studies, family responsibilities, or personal health as a direct result of time or money spent gambling.

Repeatedly trying to control, cut back, or stop gambling without success — despite genuine intention to do so.

Quick Self-Assessment

These questions are not diagnostic tools — they are prompts for reflection. Consider your honest answer to each one. If several answers concern you, we encourage you to use a platform tool or speak to someone you trust.

1. In the past month, have you gambled with money that was earmarked for essential expenses — rent, bills, food, or school fees?
Never Once A few times Often
2. Have you ever felt the need to bet increasingly large amounts of money to get the same level of excitement?
Never Occasionally Regularly
3. After a significant gambling loss, have you returned quickly to try to win your money back?
Never Sometimes Most of the time Always
4. Has someone close to you — a partner, parent, or friend — expressed concern about your gambling in the past 12 months?
No Yes, once Yes, multiple times
5. Have you ever missed or been late to work, family commitments, or social events because of gambling?
Never Once or twice Several times Frequently

No judgment here. These questions are meant to help you see patterns more clearly. If your answers concern you, the most important next step is to take action now — even a small action like setting a deposit limit or calling Talian Kasih (15999) is meaningful and can change the trajectory significantly.
